The Wild

Post-production in California and Canada tied together on this animated Disney feature.

This computer-animated comedy-adventure (Disney, 2006) features an assortment of animals from the New York Zoo who undertake a mission to rescue one of their own. With its myriad of voice-overs and sound effects, and editors working in various locations, sound supervisor and sound designer Andy Newell (Crank Calls, King's Highway, Farmer & Chase, Dracula, American Ninja 4: The Annihilation) had a big challenge handling all that material in a timely and accurate way.

“We used PIX Project to distribute large and small files, both sound and video. We posted schedule information, sessions, sequences, spotting notes, and sound effects for our crew who were spread out between Berkeley, Marin (CA), Portland and Los Angeles, and the picture departments (two), in San Francisco and Canada.”

Animation means a large number of versions. So, a huge benefit of PIX Project, according to Newell, “is having everything centralized, having the entire crew focus on one central database of material and information.”

“I’d be on my laptop and wherever I was I could put something on PIX and everyone could reference it. Being able to create a spotting session, for example, and have that sent to various people to work off of — that’s incredibly beneficial.”
